Breast and Cervical Cancer Awareness Event -Tuesday 11th June 2019

The team at Pearl Medical Centre organised an event to raise awareness and educate the community on breast and cervical cancer. This was held at Ward End Library.

The event highlighted the screening processes available for these cancers. Dr Choudhary explained that there are many risk factors involved in breast cancer, age, obesity, alcohol intake and family history to name a few. Cervical cancer is less common, the estimated lifetime risk of being diagnosed with cervical cancer being 1 in 142 (less than 1%) for females born after 1960 in the UK. However, it is still important to attend regular screening appointments as detection in the early stages reduces the risk of this cancer from spreading.
